The best winter hat
Thanks for staying with me last week/weekend while I took a brief hiatus from this blog! Last week we got news that my grandma went to the hospital, so my mom and I took several days in Charlotte to be with her and my grandpa. The great news: both of my grandparents are back home, healthy, and up to their usual activities again. It's never fun to be in the hospital, whether as a patient or a visitor, so everyone is much happier this week!
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen this selfie that I posted yesterday (side note: I never post selfies, so this was almost a first). Before going to the hospital last week I showed my grandma, who we call Mama Duck, a photo of this Kate Spade santa hat. Though I adore the hat, there is no way I could have dropped that kind of cash on something I would wear for a week or two every year. Lucky for me, Mama Duck is fantastic and knitted one for me, along with a matching scarf! My heart almost exploded with love when she gave it to me. How did I get so lucky?
This isn't a post to brag (maybe it is a little bit...), but just a reminder that a handmade gift can be just as good or even better than a bought present. Now every time I see my hat I'll think of my grandma and her insane knitting abilities. It's definitely the most wonderful time of the year!
